GOODRICH- After Sunday, band concerts, plays and school gatherings at Goodrich High School will never be same.
After utilizing the gymnasium and cafeteria for many school functions the Goodrich High School will open their new performing arts center.
“We will have a ribbon cutting and ceremony with performances from the high school band and choir. Members from the drama and acting classes will also be present,” said Ray Green, Goodrich school district superintendent.
“Many more classes are being offered for drama and acting. There was a big push for a performing arts facility in the late 90’s.”
More than 3,000 invitations have been sent out for the opening.
In January, the Goodrich Board of Education informed Green that the new auditorium would be named in his honor because of the dedication and commitment to the schools and community for more than 20 years.
Voters approved a $26.3 million bond issue in 2000 which included $4,681,918 for the new auditorium. Also included in the bond were technology improvements, and renovations in the high school, middle school and Oaktree Elementary, which should be completed within the next few months.
