Good Shepherd goes ‘Rain Forest? for Lutheran Schools Week

Students at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Lake Orion recently ventured into the jungle.
It was actually the hallway of their own school, but amongst the rainforest decorations it was hardly recognizable.
The culmination of the school’s March 6-10 Lutheran Schools Week was a Jungle Party in the school’s gym, but decorations started going up a few weeks ago over winter break.
‘We started by taking a field trip to the Rainforest Cafe,? said kindergarten teacher Patty Lobos.
But the jungle-themed activities went into high gear last week.
‘We kicked off the week with a Rainbow Olympics Day,? said 3rd and 4th grade teacher Stephanie Polonkey, who noted that students made special shirts and participated in team activities.
For the Jungle Party, the 36 K-4 students, and 110 preschool students, had plenty of choices to keep them busy.
Cookie decoration, various art projects, athletic activities, face painting, and an enormous feast (of rainforest-themed food, naturally) helped to make the day a special one.
The school will keep the rainforest theme alive during reading month.
