Girls track and field wins Tri-County Invitational, defeats Clarkston in dual meet

Boys finish fourth at Invitational

ORION TWP. — The Lake Orion High School boys and girls track and field teams competed in the Tri-County Invitational on Friday with the girls winning the invitational and the boys finishing in fourth place.
The teams also took on archrivals Clarkston on Wednesday, with the girls team winning the matchup.
Boys – Tri-County Invitational
“It was a pleasant day to run on Friday and the Lake Orion Dragons found success. The boys scored 76 points to place fourth out of nine teams,” said head coach Andrew McDonald.
Senior Alexis Laurent took fifth place in the 1,600-meter run in 5:13 minutes. Senior Kaydon Degraffenreid continued his success in the shot put with a first-place throw of 45-feet, 7-inches, a season best, and third place in the discus 129-feet, 6-inches.
Sophomore Jaydon Borrero took seventh place in the shot put with a throw of 38-feet, 1.5-inches. He also threw 107-feet in discus.
Senior Donovan Scott won the high jump with a 6-foot jump and junior Alex Damiano took seventh place at 5-feet, 6-inches.
“One of the highlights of the meet was freshman Tyler Mollan winning the pole vault at 12-feet and setting the freshman pole vault record,” McDonald said. “
Senior Ian McCullum followed at 11-feet, 6-inches. In the long jump Donovan Scott jumped 19-feet, 4-inches, a season best, to take third place.
Girls
The girls scored 145.5 points to win the meet, with contributions all over the track and field, McDonald said.
Senior Allie Fouts was third in the 100m dash in 13.0 seconds and second in the 200m dash at 27.59 seconds. Freshman Naya Call ran 1:07.15 minutes in the 400m to take third place.
In the distance races, the girls team of Mackie Shoskey, Natalie Meldrum, Addison Redmon and Megyn Fox won the 3,200m relay in 10:42 minutes. In the 1,600m run, Linda Lopez took second in 5:47. In the 800m run, Megyn Fox ran 2:40 minutes to take second place and Addison Redmon was closely behind at 2:41 minutes to take third. Junior Mariana Milan ran a season best in the 3,200m run at 13:29 minutes to take third place.
In the hurdles races Sabrina DiMaggio took third place in 16.91 seconds and in the 300m hurdles Olivia Bagdasarian ran 51.93 seconds to take third and Lauren Ritz ran 54.80 seconds to secure third place.
“The field events continued to impress with their results and contributed a lot to the team win,” McDonald said.
Mikaela Redmon jumped 4-feet, 8-inches in the high jump. The pole vault tandem of Sabrina DiMaggio jumped 10-feet, good for second place, and Olivia Bagdasarian jumped 9-feet for third place. The girls 4x400m relay continued their success and closed out the win with a thrilling time of 4:23 minutes to take first place. The relay was composed of Mackie Shoskey, Lauren Ritz, Allie Fouts and Sydney Goodman.
Clarkston Dual Meet
Boys
The Lake Orion boys lost to Clarkston 82-46 during a dual meet on April 17 at Lake Orion High School.
“After delaying the meet for one hour, the Dragons put their best effort on the track and field,” McDonald said.
Senior Kaydon Degraffenreid won the shot put with a 45 feet throw and was also second in the discus at 127-feet, 11-inches, both personal bests of the season. In the high jump, senior Donovan Scott cleared 6-feet for first place, junior Alex Damiano jumped 5-feet, 6-inches for second and junior Nolan Rhodes took third place for his 5-feet, 3-inches jump.
Freshman Anthony Catenacci took third place in the long jump with a jump of 18-feet, 3.5-inches.
“Congratulations on earning his first varsity points,” McDonald said.
Junior Ben Vanlandeghem finished in third place to start the scoring for the Dragons in the 110 hurdles in 18.21 seconds. Junior Blake Peardon took first place in the 1,600m run in a time of 4:34 minutes and second in the 800m run in a gutsy 2:09 minutes, McDonald said.
Senior Kenny Locke ran 55.56 seconds to take third place in the 400m dash. Senior Tanner Stewart took an important first in the 300m hurdles in 44.00 seconds, and Junior Ben Vanlandeghem took second in a season best of 44.61.
The 3,200m run saw Senior Oliver House run a season best of 10:02 minutes to win the race. The last scoring event for the Dragons was the 1,600m relay of seniors Kenny Locke and Ben Redmon, junior Blake Peardon and freshman Cole Shoskey running 3:43 minutes to win the race.
Clarkston Meet – Girls Results
The Lake Orion girls track and field team defeated Clarkston 69-59 in a dual meet at Lake Orion High School on Wednesday.
In the field events, sophomore Mikaela Redmon was first in high jump in a jump of 4-feet, 10-inches and freshman Elyse Avey was third in 4-feet, 6-inches. Isabella Delong continued her strong season in the shot put winning with a throw of 34-feet, 2-inches, a season best, and the discus in 103-feet, 3-inches.
In the long jump sophomore Layla Thomas took second place with a jump of 16 feet.
The 3,200m relay produced a season best effort for the Dragons, with Sofi Sally, Maddie Feurig, Linda Lopez and Hannah Deroeck winning in 9:48 minutes. This time is currently top 10 in the state, McDonald said.
In the 100 m hurdles sophomore Sabrina DiMaggio went 15.84 seconds to win the hurdles, she also placed third in the 200m dash in 28.36 seconds.
The 100 and 200m dashes were won by senior Allie Fouts in 12.95 seconds and 27.01 seconds, respectively. Freshman Jenna Eichbrecht ran 13.58 seconds for third place.
In the 1,600m run senior Hannah DeRoeck won in 5:25.85 minutes. The 800m relay team of Sabrina DiMaggio, Saylor Papadelis, Jenna Eichbrecht and Allie Fouts produced a season best time of 1:47.67 minutes to win first place.
In the 400m dash Saylor Papadelis ran a season best 1:00.42 minutes to take first place. Fellow freshman Naya Call ran 1:05.66 minutes for third place.
The last event of the day to score was the winning 1,600m relay team of Sofi Sally, Naya Call, Lauren Ritz, and Saylor Papadelis in 4:12 minutes.
