Girls take tune-up SEMSL race prior to state competition

Taking their competition to another level, the Clarkston skiers made a strong showing at the Southeast Michigan Ski League races held at Mt. Holly on Feb. 20.
The girls finished in first place with 27 points, far ahead of next finisher Milford (79). Rochester Adams (122), Flushing (170) and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep ((186) rounded out the top five.
‘That’s a great race because of the competition,? Coach Mike Foyteck said.
Hannah Wolf and Trisha Peters were first and second in both the slalom and giant slalom.
‘It’s a great situation to have No.’s one and two because of the points,? Foyteck said.
Wolf winning many events this season has spurred Peters to train more, with success Foyteck said.
‘It helps because she’s pushing herself.
‘The time Hannah wins by is diminishing.?
Foyteck said the pair’s ability to work together as the regular first and second place finishers helps the team, whereas the opposite might occur and be harmful to the team.
‘As coaches, if you don’t take care of it, it can become self-defeating because they’re more worried about racing each other and lost the team concept,? Foyteck said.
‘It’s worked well and the girls? attitudes are great.?
Freshman Kelly Peters took fourth
