Girls cross country team stumbles at OAA Red Jamboree #1 (photo gallery)

It’s been a rebuilding year for the Lake Orion girls varsity cross country team.

The team lost key seniors from last year’s squad and have faced tough opponents while trying to up their performances over the past few meets.

At the OAA Red Jamboree 1 at Lake Orion High School on Sept. 14, the team tied for last place with Birmingham Seaholm out of the six teams at the meet, each team getting a high 113 points. Oxford won the Jamboree with 33 points, Troy was second with 61 points, Rochester finished third with 87 points and Clarkston was fourth with 94 points.

Freshman Addison Verlinden was the Dragon’s top runner, finishing the 5k race in 12th place with a time of 21:43.9. Senior Alexandra Boes finished 14th overall at 21:47.3. Sophomore Maddie Feurig was 25th with a time of 22:26.5, sophomore Lauren Dumeah was 29th at 22:53.2 and senior Kendall Osborne rounded out the scoring for the Dragons in 39th place and a time of 23:21.9.

The Dragons finished 12th out of 17 teams at the Holly/Duane Raffin Festival of Races on Saturday.
