After a tight first period, the Goodrich hockey team pulled away from host Clio for a 4-2 win in a Dec. 22 contest at Bay County Civic Arena.
Forward Reece Geml had a productive game for the Martians with one goal and three assists.
Clio took a 1-0 lead at 4:52 of the first period on a goal from captain Joe Berry, but the Martians answered with 29 seconds left in the first, as Brennen Benedict scored on assists from Brian Van Kuren and Geml.
In the second, the Mustangs regained the lead on a goal by Justin Meiser at 5:39 of the period, but from there, it was all Goodrich.
Geml scored at 10:38 of the second on an assist from Derek James, tying the contest at two, and Van Kuren put the Martians up for good when he scored on assists from Geml and Darin Kern at 13:29 of the period.
The Martians added an insurance goal at 10:22 of the third period when Max Hawkins scored off a Geml assist.
