Goodrich- There may be more common music genres, but folk music will soon be here.
Gary Brandt will lead a Folk Song Revival 8 p.m., Oct. 1 at the Bull Ring Sports Grille, 8234 S. State Road. This is the second year the Grand Blanc singer and guitarist has performed this program.
‘It’s had really good success,? Brandt, 53, says. ‘It’s a tribute to classic old folk songs that many of us grew up with and also some of my original songs.?
Brandt, who is a teacher in Ferndale but has traveled the country as a folk music performer, says country western, rock ‘n? roll and blues are more common music forms, but it is ‘amazing? how many folk music songs people know. At his show, he will do a 15-song medley with verses from Harry Chapin, John Denver, Bob Dylan, and Peter, Paul and Mary. He will also have a Gordon Lightfoot tribute. The show will be a little over an hour long.
‘In folk music, the words have a chance to come through,? says Brandt, who has been writing songs since he was 15. ‘When you take a moment to listen to the songs, a lot of people can relate. It’s going to be a lot of fun, entertaining, humorous and people will have a good time.?
There is no cover charge or extra cost. Drinks and food will be available and patrons can order off the dinner menu, says Bull Ring manager Vicki Cushman.
This is the Bull Ring’s first time having an event of this kind.
‘I am into doing something different and trying new things,? says Cushman. ‘If it works out well we might do it again.?
