First-graders in Jaime Lovely’s class at Blanche Sims Elementary School explored their creative sides with artist Phyllis Hamilton, when she visited and painted with them on Dec. 1.
Hamilton, a Richmond resident, is the Utica Schools Resident Artist. She teaches painting to children through the ‘Utica Saturday Scholars? program.
Hamilton paints local historical sites, as well as old farms, cattle, ships, fields and flowers.
‘Everyone can paint,? she said. ‘I love going to schools and working with children.?
Hamilton helped the students at Blanche Sims create paintings of cabins in the snow, teaching basic steps using acrylic paints.
