Downtown businesses receive grants from DDA crowdfunding campaign

The Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority announced on July 14 that nine downtown businesses are being awarded grant money from the DDA’s recent crowdfunding campaign.

The business receiving the grants include: Cutting Edge Salon, Diamond Dave’s Creative Jewelers, Ed’s Broadway Gift and Costume, Hanson’s Running Shop, Heritage Spinning and Weaving, Oat Soda Lake Orion, Sarah’s Bath Boutique, The Lake Orion Review and Vanity Vixen Beauty Lounge.

The campaign ran from May 14 to June 30 with the goal of raising $25,000.

By the end of the campaign, the DDA had managed to raise $10, 480 to split equally among the businesses that had applied for the grant.

The amount divided equally among the nine businesses equates to $1,164.44 for each business.

However, the board voted to “roundup” and give each business $1,165, pulling the additional $5.04 from DDA fund balance.

The rest of the funds will be distributed by the Greater Rochester Area Foundation.
