DeJose advances to states; netters second in league

Brandon’s boys tennis team is done for the season, but one of their team members will be moving on to state competition.
Jeremiah DeJose, the Blackhawks? #1 singles player, advanced to the regional finals May 15 before losing to Matt Stevens of Holly 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. DeJose will compete in the state tennis tournament May 30 in Holland.
As a whole, the Blackhawks finished fourth out of 10 teams at regionals. Holly took first place, while Flushing finished second and Fenton third.
The Blackhawks competed in the Flint Metro League match Feb. 13 and wound up in third place, behind first-place Holly and second-place Fenton. Brandon wound up with a second-place finish in their first year in the league, with Holly beating the Blackhawks out for the top spot.
Brandon suffered a 7-1 defeat to Stoney Creek May 10. The Blackhawks earned their lone win of the meet at #2 doubles, where Chris Nuccio and Jeff Michal defeated Ed Wartowski and Justin Bucci 6-4, 6-1.
