A 44-year-old Oxford resident who claimed he had permission to take items from a Brandon Township property will face larceny charges since the man he said was allowing it has been dead six years.
Gary Lee Sexton was arraigned on a charge of larceny of $1,000 or more, less than $20,000, on March 23.
According to police reports, on March 14, Sexton stole a boat, scrap copper and aluminum, furnaces, air conditioning units, and coils from a property located in the 5700 block of Seymour Lake Road.
The person filing the complaint found his boat at Sam Allan’s Scrap Yard in Auburn Hills.
When questioned about the theft, Sexton said he was given permission to clean up the property and named the man who gave him permission. He said he and his girlfriend met the man at the Oxford Tap Bar, but said his girlfriend didn’t remember the man, ‘that’s how big of a drunk she is. Nothing ever seems to go right since I met her.?
His story didn’t go right, either? police informed Sexton that the man he said had given him permission had been dead for six years and there was no way he could have given permission.
Sexton replied, ‘I am not stealing, I’m telling the truth. This guy being dead don’t help my story worth a crap.?
A preliminary exam for Sexton is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., April 28, in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Dana Fortinberry.
