Congratulations to Oxford High School’s DECA students who participated in the 60th Annual International Career Development Conference in Dallas, Texas from April 29 through May 2.
OHS sent 28 marketing students to represent Michigan, and five groups placed in the top 16 with one in the top 10.
DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America who’s purpose is to attract young people to careers in marketing, merchandising, management and entrepreneurship.
Oxford’s DECA students competed with over 14,000 DECA members from the nation and world.
Students who placed in the top 16 each received a medal. Those who placed in the top 10 received two medals.
Brad Grunewald, Mykala Salquist and Ashley Seeling’s Public Relations Project on seatbelt safety (‘Click it for Jill?) made it all the way to the top 10.
Kaitlin DuCharme, Elizabeth Hazelwood and Danielle Wicker placed in the top 16 with their Learn and Earn Project, which was to create a goodie shop in the school to raise money.
Nicole Gallo, Allison Burgess and Sara Pollack placed in the top 16 for their Civic Consciousness Project to raise funds and awareness for the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit.
Jennifer Mancini and Sera Saroli placed in the top 16 for their General Marketing Project in which they worked with local business Modern Nails. They researched a plan to improve the business.
Shana Jones and Chelsea McIntosh placed in the top 16 for their Creative Marketing Project, which also worked on improving the business of On Point School of Dance.
DECA advisor Steve Ruch said he was ‘real pleased? with how well the students did at the competition.
‘We’ve never had that many groups on stage at internationals,? he said.
Ruch would like to thank all of the local businesses who contributed to the DECA students.
