Depot Park overflowed with music lovers on June 23 for performances by the Clarkston Community Band and Blackthorn as part of the summer Concerts in the Park series.
The series continues on Friday, June 30 with ‘the entertainment experience? of Trilogy, a band whose playlist spans more than 50 years.
Originally formed in 1986, Trilogy was named for the three founding members: Terry Stafford, Gary ‘Bubba? Michels and Jim Alexander. Together, the group pledged their band would follow the creed, ‘If you can’t dance to it, we shouldn’t play it.? Their style mixes motown, classic rock and oldies.
Several members have come and gone over the years, but since their debut the band doubled in size. Tim Adkins, Lloyd Slaven, Dennis Gabbeart and John Liddell joined the group over the years, and Alexander left for personal reasons.
The group performs music dating back to the 50’s and incorporates a little of everything leading up to the hits of today. The result is a variety of music that could not fit into a single category, radio station or music channel.
‘If you don’t like a song, stick around for a few minutes,? said Adkins, emphasizing the eclectic variety of music the group performs.
Trilogy has performed at more than 1,500 venues in Michigan and Ohio, hosting more than 70 shows per year. They even headlined a concerts series for VH1 called ‘Save the Music.? This year marks their second performance as part of the Concerts in the Park series.
The concert runs from 7-9 p.m. at Depot Park. The Concerts in the Park series is a free summer music program presented by the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce.
