Two planners hunched over colorful graphs and tables spread across the desk, spreadsheet on computer screen.
Next on their agenda: ice cream.
‘Who’s going to do that,? asked Debbie Hansen, bank manager for Clarkston’s Oxford Bank and committee member for this year’s Taste of Clarkston.
‘We are,? said Stephen Hyer, president of IGD Solutions and committee chairman. ‘Six of us, with a captain ? we’ll scoop all day.?
Teen volunteers with Clarkston High School’s National Honor Society and Team RUSH would be a good choice, Hyer said.
Next up: coffee.
‘Who’s going to do that,? Hansen asked.
‘We are,? Hyer said. ‘We’ll do coffee the same way??
So went the final few days of almost nine months of planning for the annual Taste of Clarkston, organized by Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce.
About 300 volunteers will fill about 400 or more shifts at the downtown Clarkston event, set for Sunday, Sept. 24, 12-6 p.m.
About 35 restaurants will feature their favorite entrees, desserts, and snacks, all clearly located on a new map.
‘My graphics guy designed it ? it’s very cool,? Hyer said. ‘It looks like the map Cedar Point uses. It will be easier to find all the restaurants.?
All-day entertainment at the main stage includes:
? Mojones, playing cover hits such as “Black Magic Woman,” “Stormy Monday,” and “Season of the Witch,” 12:15 p.m.;
? Stardusters Swing Band, 2 p.m.;
? Blue Chaledonia with Dancing Feet Dancers, 4:15 p.m.;
? Second Chance, playing cover hits including “I want to hold your hand” and “Change in my Pocket.”
Kidzone games and activities will be in Depot Park and Washington Street parking lot. At noon, Orion Drummers offer an Interactive Drum Circle. Admission is free. Tickets for food samples are $1 each. Items range from one ticket for desserts, hor d’oeurves, and snacks, to 5-7 tickets for entrees.
