Brandon Twp. – Thirty-one year Brandon Township resident, Charlene Carlson is asking residents for another term on the board.
On Feb. 13, Carlson turned in her petition to run for a second term as a township trustee.
‘The past three and a half years have been a tremendous learning experience,? said Carlson who is hoping to apply what she has learned as a board member with what she sees as important issues coming up in the community.
Because of the state shared revenue cuts, Carlson says she is concerned about keeping the township fiscally strong and solvent.
As a teacher in the Detroit school systems for more than 10 years and in Brandon for more than twelve, Carlson is no stranger to the community impact of budget cuts, stating she is concerned about keeping the township fiscally strong and solvent while riding out state revenue sharing cuts.
‘At the same time, the township continues to grow and we must meet the needs of the community,? she said.
Further, Carlson is ready to take on the challenges of widening M-15, community water issues, septic system resolutions, and the continuation of the safety path. Married to Arthur, the couple raised their children in the area and Carlson says she knows how important community quality of life is, and plans to continue support of the fire and sheriff departments, the recreations commission, and senior citizen program development.
‘After joining the Ortonville Historical Society my thoughts for building the future became even stronger,? Carlson
Carlson also says she enjoys playing an active role in community improvements by serving on committees such the hazardous waste program, parks and recreation, and SEMCOG, which she feels has brought benefit to the township.
Rooted as a township resident, Carlson says serving the people of Brandon has been rewarding and enjoys meeting so many good people in the community and plans to preserve Brandon’s history with good future planning.
‘The importance of planning the future of Brandon Township has been top priority in all my decisions as trustee,? she said.
