The CARE Preschool at Lake Orion High School will host an open house for potential students on May 7 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
The open house will include crafts and a tour of the program. The preschool, open for eight years, is currently enrolling children age three and up for tuition (residents from any area) programs. Free spots are available in the program for those who qualify (must be Lake Orion residents).
The preschool has 17 free spots and 19 tuition spots. Classes are held Monday-Thursday, 8:15-11:15, or 12:15-3:15. Classes are for children ages 3-5, and for free spots, children must be four by Dec. 1st. Tuition students can be three years old to start.
Michelle Mincek and Brenda Vandekerckhove oversee the program, with Vandekerckhove holding an associate’s degree in child development, having worked with children for 13 years; and Mincek also having 13 years of experience, with a master’s degree in early childhood.
Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the program, which includes field trips, holiday programs and prepares children for kindergarten.
‘We are theme-based, working on a different theme each week, such as dinosaurs, seeds and Space,? said Mincek. ‘We encourage children to plan their day and visit different learning centers during their free time.?
Activities focused on include: Dramatic play, pre-math skills, cutting, name recognition/writing, letter recognition, writing, shape recognition and many other skills that prepare children to enter kindergarten.
‘We work on many different open-ended art projects, appropriate for their age, throughout the week,? said Mincek. ‘Children learn in a hands-on manner. We strive to meet the individual needs of each child.?
Special education referral services are available to those in need, such as speech.
Classes run on the Lake Orion Schools holiday schedule, from August through the end of May.
