The Lake Orion High School boys track and field team kicked off their first regular home meet of the season in grand fashion April 20, defeating Rochester 74-54, and Pontiac Northern, 76-52.
Trent Varva in the shot and discus, Ryan Allison in both hurdle races and Adam Martin in two sprint races, were all double winners for Lake Orion, helping the Dragons in their two OAA I victories.
Keith Magic in the 800 run, Ryan Lewandowski in the high jump and winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams all had victories. Justin Smith, Palmer Schoening, Pat Bridgewater, and David Wurst also contributed for the team.
The outcome was not so good for the Lake Orion girls, who were defeated by Pontiac Northern 68-60, and 69-59 by Rochester.
Against Northern and Rochester, the Lake Orion 3200 relay team won (10:32), and Lindsay Gaudard won the 1600 run (5:25.83), and the 3200 run (11:20.1).
Andrea Hitchcock won the 100 hurdles (:16:86), and and Lake Orion also took the 800 run and 1600 relay races, as well as the discus competition.
Against Rochester, Lake Orion additionally took the 300 hurdles and long jump.
On April 24 at the West Bloomfield Invitational, the Lake Orion boys took third place, finishing with 40. Detroit Mumford took first place with 60.
Allison was a standout for the team, winning the 110 high hurdles, 300 high hurdles and running a leg on the winning shuttle hurdle relay team, along with Ben Copeland, Kojo Aseido and Mike Fingado.
Other medalists for the boys were Lewandowski’s third place finish in the high jump, Brian Larsen’s fifth place finish in the discus, with a personal best of 129?, and Kevin Comstock’s fifth place finish in the pole vault.
The Lake Orion girls finished in a tie for 13th with Plymouth Salem, with both teams with 10. Ann Arbor Pioneer won the meet with 97.
Gaudard took the 3200 run with a time of 11:06.3.
