The Varsity Bowling teams can cross Lapeer West off of their nice list after the Wildcats had to grind out victories against them this past week.
The Varsity Girls lost the first baker match 155-147, but rebounded to take a 141-129 victory in the second baker match. Heather Lafnear went 4-for-4 in baker, helping the Wildcats take a 6-4 lead heading into the head to head competition.
The girls won the first head-to-head game 793-646 as well as the second game 739-604.
Captain Sarah Decker was the hero in game one, bowling a 228 to lead the Wildcats. Kelly Cartner, Anna Tomaka and Lafnear also recorded victories in the first game.
In game two, Lafnear was the leading bowler with a 201 and Cartner, Decker and Liz Taylor won their matches.
The girls improved to 3-0, tied with Kearsley for first.
The Varsity Boys battled hard all day long and outlasted the guys from Lapeer West in their match.
The boys won the first baker game 190 to 163, but lost the second game 169-154. Corey Young, Mike Magyar and Sean Leblanc all went 4-for-4 in baker.
The boys had to rally in the tenth frame to beat West in game one of the head-to-head competition 871-831. Brandon Wynkoop and John Garza pulled out their matches in the final frame, with Garza bowling three strikes.
Garza’s effort sparked the Wildcats, who comfortably won the second game 896-813. Young, Wynkoop, Garza and Magyar all won their matches.
‘We were able to stay focused and keep positive under adverse conditions. The team is starting to really concentrate on the little things that will make them better and will pay off in the future,? said Coach JR Lafnear.
With the victory, the boys up their record to 3-0, tied with Kearsley and Holly atop the FML standings.
