Blanche Sims Elem. exceeds fundraising goal, so Principal Nuss takes to the roof

Blanche Sims Elementary held its annual Fun Run on Oct. 4, raising a record $18,000 for the school’s PTO.

Now it’s time for Principal Ken Nuss to pay up.

The Fun Run is the school’s largest fundraiser of the year, said Blanche Sims PTO President Erica Lentz.

If the school reached its $15,000 goal, Nuss said he would reward the students by sleeping on the roof of the school, which he is planning to do on Oct. 24.

Nuss plans to read bedtime stories at 7:30 p.m. to the kids who show up at the school, and will have a pulley system in place for snacks and hot chocolate deliveries.

Nuss will sleep on the roof of the building until 8:45 a.m. Friday when school starts.

Blanche Sims’ PTO, like many of Lake Orion’s PTO programs, helps raise funds for a variety of activities at the schools, in and out of the classroom.

“We set a school wide goal of raising $15,000 which will go toward classroom supplies, field trip transportation, in-school assemblies, etc. for the year. Our Sims families came through big time and we raised $18,000!” Lentz said. “The money we raised is held by the PTO and teachers submit budget requests for their classrooms and we grant those and pay out the expenses.” – J.N.
