On Sept. 29, Goodrich High School hosted a volleyball tournament with five schools.
The Brandon varsity girls defeated Cardinal Mooney High School and split games with Imlay City. The Blackhawk girls lost to both Goodrich and Yale.
Sherri Lawrence went 31/36 hitting with 16 kills, DJ Kwasiborski had 16 kills and 4 aces, and Hayley Lewis had 14 kills. Monica Walls had 34 assists and three aces, while Sarah Privette added 24 digs.
‘We didn’t play that well,? said Jenifer Elkins, Blackhawks varsity volleyball coach,’although we learned a lot for our next game.? The Blackhawks will be playing at Lapeer East Oct. 9.
The tournament ended well, however,for the Goodrich volleyball team. The Martians had an overall record of 20-10-6 for the game. Their overall league record is 8-1. Sara Eisinger had 109 assists, 21 digs, and 94 percent serving with nine aces. Niki McKerracher had 43 kills and 8 blocks, and Lauren Warner had 21 kills, 29 digs, 4 blocks, 32/33 serving with four aces.

‘As a team, we continue to serve well and our offense was on fire. It was a good tournament for us and I’m proud of the energy, enthusiasm, and intensity that our girls brought to the court.?
The Martians will play at Montrose High School Oct.11.
