ORION TWP. — Fire trucks, police cars, bulldozers and backhoes. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office usually sends a SWAT vehicle.
And then there’s the helicopter. Always one of the kids’ favorites.
These are just some of the vehicles expected at this year’s Big Rig Gig, giving kids the chance to climb on, and through, the big rigs, honk the horns and talk to police officers, firefighters, paramedics, road commission workers and school bus drivers.

Orion Township Parks & Recreation Community Programs Division brings back the Big Rig Gig, a favorite for little kids and big kids alike, from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Friendship Park at the corner of Baldwin and Clarkston roads. The Big Rig Gig is free to attend.
The Big Rig Gig features 25-30 trucks, tractors, diggers, dozers, buckets, back-loaders law enforcement and fire department vehicles.
In addition to the big rigs, there will be tables and exhibits from community groups.
The Orion Area Chamber will also host its fourth annual food truck festival during the Big Rig Gig.
“The Chamber is excited to once again partner with Orion Township Parks & Recreation to bring a variety of delicious food choices and cool beverages to this highly acclaimed event,” said Joyce Donaldson, president and CEO of the chamber.
The food truck festival includes 11 food trucks, including Cookies and Cream, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Your Food Dude, plus Great Lakes Eatz and Treatz, Pappas Noodz, Poppos Barbeque LLC, Sucree-Mobile Dessert Parlor, Sweet T’s Lemonade, Twisted Burger Food Truck, Wing Snob and Ziffels LLC.
