Brandon Twp.- Brandon High School seniors Ahmad Dandachi and Chelsea Perry are bound for Reno, Nev., thanks to their website featuring Chicago.
The students entered a website competition sponsored by Business Professionals of America and placed first regionally, and by virtue of taking second place at the state level, will compete against 100 teams nationally May 7-9 in Reno.
‘This experience means a lot to me,? said Perry, who adds that she is excited and nervous about going to the national competition.
Dandachi and Perry have been working on their entry for the annual competition since October. The topic this year was ‘Destination: Anywhere.? They were to choose any city in the world and create a website for it. They selected the Windy City because, Perry says, ‘Everyone loves Chicago.?
Perry designed the look of the website and Dandachi took over the administrative portion of the website, making a login, adding items to the calendar, and creating newsletters.
The site, which can be found at www.destination-chicago.org, features shopping, history, transit, and sights and sounds links.
‘It has whatever you need to know to go to Chicago,? Perry said.
‘We’re still working on it and getting it ready for nationals,? adds Dandachi, who took up an interest in website application when he was bored one summer and decided to create a website.
The students, who joined BPA two years ago, say they have learned a lot and have received job offers. Eric Lott, the BPA adviser, said this is the first time Brandon High School has had students qualify for BPA national competition.
‘I’m really proud of their accomplishments and can’t wait to see how they stack up,? he said.
