Baseball field has bright future

Ortonville- Sherman Village Park has a bright future in store.
The Brandon Township Board has approved a bid from Stewart Electric to replace the lighting on ballfield one at the park for a cost of $9,968.
‘The lighting on field one is outdated,? said Brandon Recreation Director Fred Waybrant. ‘It’s much dimmer and a safety issue. We’re matching it to field two.?
The lights on field one are at least 25 years-old and Waybrant says those type of bulbs don’t sell anymore.
The recreation department has been saving money from sponsorships and registrations for seven years and the time has come to spend it on a worthy cause. The money was designated for improvement to the baseball program. Waybrant anticipated the halogen bulb lighting would cost between $12,000-$16,000, but says Stewart Electric got a good deal on lighting fixtures and passed the savings to the township.
The replacement of light fixtures is expected to begin in December at the park, located at 136 Cedar St. Stewart Electric will also put in new timers at no extra cost.
‘It’s a good investment for our youth,? Waybrant said. ‘People will see the difference right away.?
