After 10 years of providing quality service, the Addison Twp. Fire Department is replacing one of its ambulances.
Addison officials voted to amend the purchase price of the vehicle to $105,594, up $2,449 from the original purchase price of $103,145 that was voted on in October. The ambulance is being purchased from Rolland Speciality Vehicles and Products based in Toledo, Ohio.
Fire Chief Jerry Morawski said that the reason for the additional price was because different codes for the lettering and striping on the ambulance weren’t calculated in the first time. ‘It’s time. It’s worn out. It’s costing us more to keep it on the road.?
This ambulance is going to be smaller than the previous one in order to help maneuver the driveways when they go on calls. ‘Instead of a medium duty chassis, we went to a regular Ford 450 chassis. It’s a little smaller for us to be able to get up the long driveways,? said Morawski. ‘It’s not going to be as tall and as long.?
The money for the new vehicle will come out of the department’s capital fund, which had scheduled for a new ambulance purchase next year.
However, the department wanted to get a 2009 chassis before the new emission standards took effect on the 2010 models.
That would save the Department anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000, Morawski noted.
