The Auburn Hills City Council has joined Orion Township in opposing a proposed annexation of Orion Township property by a developer looking to increase density for a subdivision.
The council passed a resolution on Jan. 19 opposing an annexation into Auburn Hills, which would allow developer James Faycurry to build 500 homes on the property at Squirrel and Dutton Roads. Orion Township zoning currently allows only one home per 2.5 acres, while Auburn Hills allows two homes per acre.
‘We just went through our master plan and updated everything,? said Orion Township Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk. ?(Faycurry) hasn’t come to the township and applied and gone through the process…he thinks he’s going to go on the fast track and bypass it.?
Two residents living on the property on Squirrel Road have submitted a petition proposing an annexation, which could be put to a vote if Oakland County approves.
‘Mr. Faycurry may withdraw it when he sees he’s upsetting two communities,? Dywasuk said. ‘It would make the property six times as dense…you have to put all that infrastructure in there.?
If the annexation goes through, the property would need water and sewer services, and put a further burden on the Auburn Hills police and fire departments.
‘Our master plan was approved last year, and here’s a guy (Faycurry) that says ‘You’re wrong,?? said Dywasuk. ‘We’ve been working closely with (Auburn Hills) to make sure we are communicating.
‘Mr. Faycurry avoids us, he avoids Auburn Hills. (Auburn Hills) is offended by what’s going on.?
‘If someone allows this to go on, it upsets the whole township,? added Dywasuk. ‘We’ve had several meetings with Auburn Hills, and we have a game plan.?
