Brandon Twp – John Shaffer, 36, is being held in jail on a $100,000 cash bond for beating his 71-year-old aunt on Thursday, Jan. 15.
‘Basically he terrorized her for an hour,? said Detective Brad Teague of the Oakland County Sheriff Department, Brandon substation.
Shaffer was living with his aunt in her Brandon Township home when he began threatening her that he was going to harm her.
Teague said Shaffer threatened that he was going to kill his aunt and allegedly beat her for over an hour.
According to the detective, the beating was interrupted by a knock on the door and Shaffer’s aunt was able to free herself from her wrist restraints to call police.
‘He’ll say she was messing with him all day,? said Teague.
‘When she asked him to put up a curtain rod, then he hit her.?
Teague says Shaffer’s aunt was hospitalized for three days and that she was his last resort for a place to live because he had been kicked out of every other place he lived.
Shaffer has prior arrests for misdemeanors but will face a felony pre-exam conference before District Judge Dana Fortinberry, on Monday Jan. 26 at the 52-2 district court in Clarkston.
