VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 334 and Auxiliary donated 44 bags of food to the Oxford Senior Meals on Wheels on last week to help seniors who are unable to shop and/or prepare meals for themselves.
The bags contained various food items including: bag of chips, bag of Cheese-it, Ramen noodles, pudding cups, peanut butter, cheese crackers, spaghetti with meatballs, peach cup, chicken noodle soup, fresh fruit, cup of applesauce, cookies, two cans of vegetables either green beans or corn, box of chicken and rice, box of macaroni and cheese and tomato juice among others.
Meals on Wheels is a program run by the Old Person’s Commission. In 2019, OPC prepared, served and delivered 84,861 home-delivered meals to seniors throughout Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township, Auburn Hills, Independence Township, Orion and Oxford, Addison and Brandon.
VFW Post 334 and Auxiliary, with the help of an anonymous donor, were able to donate 80 frozen turkeys as well as $125 worth of additional food items to the VFW National Home for Children, Lake Orion Seventh-day Adventist Church, a homeless shelter in Pontiac and low-income veterans in Oakland County.
