With the regular season winding down, the wrestling team competed in their last dual meet of the year. Facing Grand Blanc to start off the night, the dragons narrowly came out on top 38-31.

Senior Mason Slocum and Junior Dominic Orselli each pinned their opponents. Senior Issac Kinne and Freshman Dorian Hill scored bonus points with major decisions; winning by over eight points. Going up against a depleted Carman Ainsworth team in the second round, the team was victorious with a blowout 72-6 win.

The night also welcomed the Lake Orion wrestling alumni and the youth club wrestlers. The old and the new came out in good numbers.

The highlight of the night was the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the 1990 State Championship wrestling team. About 15 members of the 1990 squad were in attendance including the head coach, Tim Fagan who gave a heartfelt speech chronicling their road to the State Title.

The 1989-90 season began with a dual meet in December against the 1989 State championship team Temperance Bedford; the team that beat Lake Orion in the state finals. The dragons did not win a single match that day.

Incredibly through hard work and determination, two months later, they faced Bedford again in the quarterfinals beating them by 22 points.

They went on to beat Bay City Western in the semifinals by 28 points and finally capturing the title with a win over Belleville by 25 points.

The Championship team will be continuing the anniversary recognition with a reunion on March 14.

The team took a well-deserved break from competition over the weekend but will head to the OAA League Meet on Friday at Clarkston High School at 4:00 p.m.

The post season starts the following week with Team Districts at Lake Orion High School on February 12 and Individual Districts on February 15.
