Yes, it’s me ‘Georgia’, just like the state

Hello, can you hear me?
I’m in Lake Orion dreaming about who we used to be when we were younger and free…
Sorry Adele lovers, but I’m really not. Don’t hold it against me, but when I was young and free I was actually an Oxford Wildcat.
I was the nerdy type, a member of marching band and quiz bowl. Acting and singing my heart out on stage, with absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, per usual for a 17-year-old high schooler.
Alas, I transitioned from a Wildcat to a Ferris State Bulldog. I wanted to follow in my mother’s and sister’s footsteps and only applied to one university, Ferris State. Thankfully I was accepted into the Honor’s program and met dozens of people who impacted my life for the better. After one year, I switched my major from accounting- what was I thinking?- to public relations. I spent several months writing my own column for the Ferris State Torch before swiftly earning my Bachelor’s in three years and having high hopes for an entry-level job.
Here I am two years later finally working that job of my dreams. Where I get to feverishly write all day and attend events, meet people, shake hands and spread my obnoxious laughter in the evenings.
I won’t lie and say I took the easy road to get back to my roots. I worked many dead-end retail jobs, served high-end burgers, went door-to-door for a certain newly merged cable company, had my heart completely broken and then moved to live in the rough parts of Atlanta for a year “to find myself” before making my way back to Michigan. And boy, am I relieved to be back.
Serving an unbiased opinion of innocent community news to you once a week has thus far already been the greatest venture of my life.
Come say hello to me, or sing me some Adele, if you see me walking around town frequenting local businesses for my morning coffee or lunch. I’d love to hear your life story, since you just took the time to read an overview of mine.
