General Motors has sent suspicious substances for laboratory testing after employees discovered an unknown white powder in separate locations at the plant on Brown Road in Orion Township.
“We received a report of an unknown substance (white powder) on the floor outside of Gate 6 at Orion Assembly last Monday, Aug. 29,” said Javier Guzman Barcenas, Plant Communications Manager, Orion Assembly/Pontiac Metal Center, in a statement to the Lake Orion Review.
“On Tuesday, we had a second report of a bottle containing a similar substance found inside the plant,” Barcenas said.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated with a K-9 narcotics dog after employees discovered the substance at 4 a.m., according to an incident report from the sheriff’s department.
There were multiple footprints through the powder, but the K-9 dog did not alert the deputies that the substance was a narcotic or other harmful threat.
Results were negative after deputies performed a field test on the substance, the sheriff’s deptartment said.
GM had the substance tested and it turned out to be baby powder.
“The safety of our employees, contractors and visitors is our top priority,” Barcenas said.
“We have followed the appropriate safety and industrial hygiene procedures to clean the area and have removed the bottle safely,” he said. – J.N.
