Clarkston Community Foundation as well as the group’s long time Treasurer Deanna Olsen were recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation for their many contributions to the community at the Clarkston Board of Education meeting, Oct. 12.
‘We are very fortunate to have funds and grants and science and other important projects,? Clarkston Community Schools Deputy Superintendent Shawn Ryan said.
“CCF supports countless opportunities available to our students. Thank you for everything you have done. We could not do everything we do without the support of CCF.”
The foundation’s work includes sending students to a variety of camps including academic, music and art. They also provide college scholarships and classroom grants.
Teachers can also apply for grants to start-up projects.
‘They really go the extra mile. They are our heroes,” Ryan added.
Board President Steve Hyer said Clarkston Community Schools could not support all the various programs CCF supports in the community.
Olsen, who has served as treasurer for years, is retiring from the board to spend more time with family.
‘We would just like to thank her for all her work,” said Ann Collias, CCS secretary and schools liaison to CCF.
Olsen received her own certificate for her years of service to the community.
“My daughters have been out of school for two years now,” she said. “I just thought it was time to let other community members take over my role.”
The foundation was formed in 1987.
Past President Jim Evans, on the board since 1991, said the CCF has been successful over the years with grants to schools including numerous funding including $10,000 to summer school scholarships, and $10,000 in classroom grants for start-up programs.
Evans said the community has been very supportive of the foundation. He also thanked Suburban Ford in Waterford for their contribution.
‘We have worked with Suburban Ford for over 10 years,? he said. ‘They have been, and continue hugely supportive of CCF.?
