Tim Horton’s sets sights on Dixie and Main

After three years, the corner of M-15 and Dixie Highway may be getting a new business.
Independence Township Planning Commission is considering a special land use permit by Tim Horton’s. The Canadian coffee, donuts, and baked goods shop is hoping to get the township’s OK to build a drive-thru restaurant at the corner. The 6756 Dixie Highway location was last used as a BP gas station.
‘I do want this corner of M15 & Dixie Hwy improved,? said Ron Ritchie, Independence Township trustee and Planning Commission member. ‘It has been in disrepair for many years now.”
Ritchie said the issue was removed from the meeting agenda by the petitioner during the last meeting.
‘I understand that they will reschedule for the Sept. 12 meeting,? he said. ‘They were going to present the conception concept of their proposal to the board and open it up to the public for any discussion.?
He added several people attended the meeting to speak about the new business, but left after they found out it was postponed.
Tim Horton’s was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario. The restaurant offers coffee, donuts and lunch. Most offer 24-hour drive-thru service.
