Oxford’s aquatic athletes defeat Farmington

The OHS Swimming and Diving team had a great first meet at Farmington High Aug. 30, defeating the home team 101-69.

In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Taylor Curtis came in first with a time of 26.81. In the 100m backstroke, OHS came in 1-2-3. Sophomore Marissa Johnson took first at 1:15.41, while Allison Miller and Mackenzie Deck finished second and third, respectively.
In the 100m butterfly sophomore Abbie Fredericks had a time of 1:20.41 to finish in second Sydney Liverance was third, and Sammi Kurk was fifth.
OHS had three a swimmers place in the 100m freestyle, Taylor Curtis in second (58.07), senior Captain Miranda Murphy in fourth, and Brenda Flasher finished in fifth.
With a first place win in the breaststroke, Elizabeth Wilkins rounded out the 100m competitions for OHS at a blistering 1:23.62. Caitlyn Wroblewski came in second.
Junior Haley Kornburger placed first in both the 200m and 500m freestyle events. In the 200m, she finished in 2:02.83, with senior Captain Courtney Lavender in third, and Kaitlyn Barber in fifth. In the 500m, ‘Kornburger cruised,? Coach Rank said, and racked up an impressive 5:29.36. Wildcats Melissa Skelton and Kaitlyn Barber came in fourth and fifth.
In the 200m individual medley, Oxford missed the top spot but had the next three. Sophomore Sydney Liverance was second at 2:43.51; Caitlyn Wroblewski finished third and junior Captain Elizabeth Wilkins was fourth in the IM.
The relay events were very strong for the women. In the 200m medley relay, first place went to Oxford’s team of Liverance, Wilkins, Curtis, and Fredericks. Their winning time of 2:09.38 bested the second place medley relay team comprised of Wildcats Johnson, Wroblewski, Deck, and Skelton.
Oxford had a second and third place finish in the 200m freestyle relay. 2:02.86 secured a second for Wilkins, Devukaj, Liverance, and Fredericks. Oxford’s B relay team of Deck, FitzCrane, Christie, and Flasher were third.
A second a third place were won by Oxford in the 400m freestyle relay as well. With a time of 4:12.78, Curtis, Murphy, Johnson, and Kornburger finished second, while third place went to the B relay team of Skelton, Devukaj, Fredericks, and Miller.
Rank was pleased with the outing, and considered it to be a better indicator than practice of the times that the girls can swim. She’s particularly happy with the awareness that the meet brought to the gals, since now they ‘recognize the many areas that need improvement.?
The next swim meet is Thursday, Sept. 6 at home against Royal Oak.
