Golfers get into swing of things

It’s been a busy few weeks for the OHS lady golfers
Junior Varsity coach Gretchen Gabler said the inaugural Golden Wedge tournament, held in Metamora on August 30, was a ‘wonderful tournament . . . (on) a very difficult course?
At the Golden Wedge, team scores and grade-level scores were tallied. Oxford’s Kyla Kurczewski was the overall medalist and first in the junior class. Fellow Wildcat Emily Cleland was third among juniors, while Alicia Kuligowski was the third sophomore.
The coaches expressed great satisfaction with Kuligowski. We are very ‘proud of her transition onto the varsity squad,? Coach Gabler said.
She was also pleased with the way the newer players handled their first time at an 18 hole tournament. ‘They were exhausted, but thrilled,? said Gabler
On August 27, the OHS girls golf team attended the first OAA League meet of the year. The girls had a good showing, finishing fifth overall.
As a team, the girls shot 388, with Kyla Kurczewski shooting an 87, Emily Kalohn a 96, Emily Cleland a 101, and Riley Hayes a 104.
On August 21, OHS hosted Lapeer West at Oxford Hills. Top Oxford scorers were Hayes and Cleland, both with 44. Kurczewski shot a 46, and Kalohn, a 49. Despite these fine scores, the Wildcats came up short to the visitors, 183 – 169.
Gabler complimented her JV team on their August 24 showing against rival Lake Orion at Boulder Pointe. Though the gals lost by a good margin, Gabler said she was ‘encouraged at the positive results the girls are having due to all the hard work?
Top OHS JV scorers at Boulder Pointe were Alicia Kuligowski, Carlie delaPaz, and Emily Zeliasko each with 57, and Dana Deryeckere with a strong 61.
Next up for the OHS girls golf team is Lapeer East at the Metamora Country Club on September 5, followed by a home match against West Bloomfield on September 7.
