The weather was perfect at Fieldstone Golf Course for the 46 participants of the North Oakland Optimist Junior Golf Qualifier on May 5.
Blake Blomberg of Auburn Hills shot a 75 to become the overall top winner in the Boys age 16-18 division. Hailey Bradley of Rochester Hills won the Girls 15-18 division.
Both will head to Meadows of Grand Valley State University June 18-19 for the Michigan Tournament. Their entry fees are sponsored by a generous donation from the North Oakland Community Coalition.
Once there, both Blake and Hailey will compete to earn a coveted spot in the Optimist International Championship at the PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens in July.
In other matches, there was a tie for first place in the Boys 14-15 division. Nazir Jairazbhoy of Farmington Hills and Dylan Deogun of Orchard Lake competed in a double sudden-death playoff. First hole was No. 1, then tying that, they went on to No. 9 where Nazir inched out Dylan to take the trophy and 1st place.
Brendan O’Rourke of Troy won the Boys 12-13; Pierce Morrissey of Stanwood won the Boys 10-11 and the Girls aged 10-12 was won by Moyea Russell of Lake Orion.
In total, 21 junior golfers qualified to advance to the next tournament round.
