2012 proved one of the more exciting regional competitions in the state, with Lake Orion and Grand Blanc going head to head for the championship.
Though Orion came out a little short, it was one of the best nights in Lake Orion track history. Three school records were set in the 400m relay (2nd place), 800m relay (2nd place) and the 1600m relay (regional champions) with Nick Balavich, Corey Ester, Zach Arnold, Joe Deneau and Chris Leigh all working together on the various teams.
The 3200m relay team of David Arenz, George Modrak, T.J. Carey and David Diaz, ran a season best time of 7:57.09 to be regional champions.
Individually, Corey Ester was regional champion in the 100m and Alex Roberts was a three time regional champion, winning the long jump with a person best of over 21? and then winning the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdle events.
Also qualifying for the state meet were Charlie Maurer in the 110m hurdles, Michael Roberts in the 300m hurdles, Nick Balavich in the 400m dash and Zach Arnold in the 200m dash.
T.J. Carey qualified in both the 1600m and 3200m runs, with David Diaz qualifying individually in the 1600m run.
Overall, 12 Dragons qualified for the state meet and they will cover 12 events.
