Goodrich-By a 4-0 vote on Monday night the village council appointed Mark Baldwin to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of councilman Phil Jackson.
Baldwin, 60, is a self-employed carpenter and licensed builder. He is a 1970 Goodrich High School graduate and lives in Goodrich with his wife, Mary Jo, a CPA.
‘After (Phil) Jackson resigned, I thought, ‘Why not give it a shot??? he said. ‘I know a lot of people in the community. I strive to be a good listener’still, I have my own mind. Right now my neighbors are fed up with government. As a councilmember it would be so good to get the faith of the people back. That would do a lot for businesses in our community. Things are changing. There are some new faces, but we all want the same thing.?
Baldwin steps in following the resignation of Jackson from the council at a special meeting Nov. 2. His announcement directly followed a 3-2 vote in which the council approved a 1-year deal with Village Administrator Jakki Sidge, which included $38,000 per year salary, 32 hours per week, 25 days of paid vacation, 8 percent of salary contributed to retirement plan, a $100,000 term life insurance policy, travel mileage and a short-term disability contract.
Jackson, 74, was elected to the village council in November 2010 and served just one year of a four-year term. Baldwin will now serve on the board until November 2014. The council had posted the opening for Jackson’s seat the week after his resignation.
Sidge told the council only Baldwin’s resume was received by the Dec.5 deadline.
However, at least one village resident said his resume was submitted.
‘I mailed my resume on Dec. 1,? said Greg Konkle, who attended the Monday meeting. ‘Give me the benefit of the doubt’for some reason my resume disappeared.?
