The lady golfers remain unbeaten on the season after defeating Birmingham Groves and Avondale this past week.
On Monday, Sept. 12 the girls traveled down to Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Beverly Hills to take on Groves. When the match concluded, Oxford walked away with a close 186-193 victory.
Kyla Kurczewski fired a 43 to lead the Wildcats. Emily Cleland and Hannah Beebe both chipped in with a 47, and Lyndsey Hurford rounded out the scoring with a 49.
‘Groves is a very good team and they were playing at home and I think we had to play well to beat them and we did,? head coach Terry Kelley said.
Kelley said one of the highlights of the match was watching Kurczewski go toe-to-toe with Groves Jessica Turner, one of Oakland County’s best players, and defeating her 43-44.
‘She (Kurczewski) beat her at her place, so that was kind of fun,? Kelley said.
The Wildcats then squared off against Auburn Hills Avondale at home on Thursday, Sept. 15 and won comfortably, 193-213.
Kurczewski was the top scorer again for Oxford, shooting a 46. She was followed by Beebe’s 47, and both Claire Wolanin and Cleland shot a 50 to round out the scoring for the Wildcats.
Kelley said he had good, balanced scoring up and down the lineup.
‘What we are getting out of our kids is pretty good balanced scoring,? he added. ‘What carries a winning team through is . . . balance.?
With the victories, Oxford improves to 6-0 on the season.
Up next for Oxford is a battle for first place within the Oakland Activities Association white division against North Farmington/Farmington Hills Harrison on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
‘They are the ones that beat us in the league tournament, so that should be a big one,? Kelley said. ‘Fortunately we play them at home, so we have an opportunity to upset them.?
