Mark ye calendars. The timeless William Shakespeare play ‘Romeo and Juliet? will be making its way to Goodrich for the very first Shakespeare in the Park.
Emma Lieber, Goodrich grad and New York University student, is the founder and artistic director of the production. Lieber says she is looking forward to portraying Shakespeare’s work and has been eagerly preparing for opening night.
‘We held auditions about five weeks ago and had a really good turn out. I always wanted to do Shakespeare and ended up having a really great cast. Slowly but surely we put the show together, step by step. I feel as though it was a good way for community members to work together and collaborate.?
‘Romeo and Juliet? will be performed at the Goodrich Commons Park at 7 p.m., today, Aug.13. The play is a story about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths eventually unite their quarreling families. Written early in Shakespeare’s career, the play is one of his most popular.
‘I felt ‘Romeo and Juliet? was best to draw out the largest crowd. It has a classic plot and it helped that the actors were already familiar with the story.?
The rehearsed cast comprises members of all ages including several Goodrich alumni and present students.
‘I am amazed with all of them. They are awesome and came to each rehearsal ready to work hard.?
The main cast list includes Steven Brauer, Kelsey Millerschin, Kate Lieber, Melyssa Rae Moors, Cameron Thompson, Paul Docter, Julia Fraker, Harry T. Flotemersch, Caren Huizenga, Elizabeth Lawer, Abby Lawler, Jacob Lawler, Kara Millerschin, Ally Moors, and Alex Van Fleteren.
Lieber hopes next summer will also include another production although it’s not set in stone.
‘I definitely want to do it again. I have been having so much fun with it and I am amazed with the cast. I feel as though it has already been extremely successful.?
Tickets for the show will be sold by donation and proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
