The Oxford Varsity Swim and Dive team looks to continue to building the program in it’s second year of existence.
Coming off a 1-5 season in the Flint Metro League last season, one of the goals that Swim and Dive Head Coach Jackie Boswell has is to be competative at this year’s Flint Metro League meet.
‘Our goal is to keep learning and pushing ourselves,? said Boswell. ‘We need to be focused on learning every step of the way.?
She currently has 25 boys on the team, but said that the numbers could fluctuate during the beginning part of the season.
Without any returning seniors on the roster, Coach Boswell is going to look towards some of her returning juniors, Corey Bell, Kyle Shick and Jimmy Walker to step it up. ‘The majority of the team is new this year. We will be expecting hard work and dedication from all of the boys and they will be need to be ready to learn.?
According to Boswell, one of the strengths on the team is the fact that it has so many swimmers on it, but at the same time it is a weakness because of the lack of knowledge many of the boys have about the different strokes.
‘Luckily, we have a great coaching staff in Heather Miller and Glen Walker that we can overcome the weakness in the next few weeks,? Boswell said.
At the early practices, Boswell and her staff will pushing the swimmers on stroke technique and perserverance to help get them ready for the season.
‘The swimmers and divers need to understand that the sport takes a lot of hard work and concentration,? Boswell said. ‘I think they will be surprised by how much they can accomplish this season.?
