Students expelled for controlled substances

The Oxford Board of Education voted unanimously to expel two Oxford High School students after they were found in possession of controlled substances while on school property, according to police reports.
The students were found to be in violation of the school’s sale and solicitation or distribution of drugs rule.
According to Oxford High School Principal Mike Schweig, school personal became aware of the situation, and through an investigation, found the students in possession of the controlled substance.
‘It’s always sad to see young people involved with the use of drugs or distribution of drugs,? said Superintendent Dr. William Skilling. ‘One of the things we try to do is when something like this happens, they get the proper help and their education continues,? he said.
During the hearings, the students felt bad about what they did and said they wanted to turn things around and graduate.
The students will have to wait 180 school days in order to petition the school board for reinstatement.
‘If the students get cleaned up and demonstrate what they have done through their actions, whether through rehab or counseling, and they academically preformed well and the board get good letters of recommendation regarding their behavior, they have a high probability of being reinstated,? said Skilling.
