Boys swim past competitors

The LOHS boys swim season is going swimmingly.
Puns aside, they’ve won every meet thus far, save one.
The boys hosted the Dragon Relays Jan. 17, and swam to first place in six of the twelve events. They landed in second place in another four.
‘We have very good depth in all events, especially freestyle,? Head Coach Paul Fairman said.
‘It looks like we’ll have a very good chance to win the OAA Division 2 title.?
In the meet on Jan. 17, Dragons nabbed first and third place in the 400-yard medley relay. Zachary Nowicki, Petar Simic, Nicholas Leggieri and Marc Vetter hit the finish first with a time of 3:58.58.
The LO boys took first in the 400 yard freestyle relay at 3:24.88 and in the 200 yard medley relay at 1:50.09.
And they out-paced the competition by 34 seconds with a time of 4:34.77 in the 400 yard breaststroke.
Final scores for the meet were Lake Orion in first with 440 points, Clarkston taking second with 400, Troy Athens in third at 316, Pinckney taking fourth with 302, Waterford United in fifth with 280 and Ionia taking sixth at 344.
‘Our team is doing very well this year,? said Fairman.
The team also took first place in Saginaw’s Heritage Relays with a final score of 314. The boys swam first in every event but two.
Heritage High School took second with 270 points.
‘We hope to place some kids at the state meet this year,? the coach said.
He says fans should keep an eye on freshman Jake Linquist and Will Cavender, sophomores Simic, Drew Fitsch, Brad Matola, Vetter and Caleb Narsh, juniors Nowicki, Justin Davis and Chris Fraga and seniors Ben Fritsch, Darin Hovarth, John VanGamper and Leggieri. They speed through the water.
‘The future is promising,? Fairman said.
He’s aiming for a spot in the top ten in the state finals.
