Girl Scouts see way to help people see better

Local Girl Scouts clearly see the need to help others. Due to their Sight Night project, hundreds of others will see clearly, too.
Clarkston Junior Girl Scouts Troop 1897 collected about 800 pairs of used glasses for the local Lion Club.
‘It will really make a difference in someone’s life around the world,? said Linda Pauley, troop leader. ‘You can be really proud of them ? they worked hard.?
The scouts went door to door, checking with parents, relatives, neighbors, optometrists, classmates, garage sales, and estate sales for donations.
‘I just want to thank the Lions for putting on this program,? said scout Jessie Pauley. ‘I’m really happy people will be able to see this beautiful world.?
‘I want to thank parents who donated to the program,? said scout Hailey Bauer.
They presented them to Clarkston Area Lions at their Nov. 13 meeting at Independence Township Senior Center.
‘It’s absolutely wonderful. I like to see young people serving the community,? said Connie Shelton, governor of Lions District 11A2, Macomb and Oakland counties.
This is the third year the girls have been collecting glasses.
‘I like knowing people will be able to see better in other places,? said scout Kelsey Catania.
‘It’s really fun to know people will finally be able to see,? added scout Megan Girschner
‘I feel really good knowing other people will get new glasses,? said Gabriella Sillman, who donated a pair of her own glasses to the project.
Since their charter in 2005, Clarkston Area Lions Club collected more than 10,000 pairs for its eyeglass recycle program. Volunteers with local and international Lions Clubs and Gift of Sight Foundation clean, repair, and classify glasses according to prescription, then send them to people in need around the world.
