Bertrand retains seat, newcomer Tetmeyer wins

Goodrich – Area voters OK’d restoration of 18 mill-non-homestead property tax levy with 449 yes votes to 337 no votes. That means the district will not have to endure a $239,315 loss, say school officials.
Residents were also asked to elect two school board trustees among the three vying for the seats.
On the ballot were incumbent James Bertrand, Doug Tetmeyer and Mark Griffiths.
Top vote getters were Tetmeyer and Bertrand. Tetmeyer picked up 574 votes, Bertrand, 426, and Griffiths, 370.
The polls were open for the approximately 5,500 distirct voters in all four precincts.
Atlas Township Clerk Tere Onica said even though the voter turnout was low, it’s still better than in years past.
‘We had a 15 percent turnout for this election. We used to get a less than 5 percent turnout before we consolidated when districts ran their own elections,? said Onica.
