It’s that time of year again. A time to celebrate knowledge, reading and fun as National Library Week will be held at the Orion Township Public Library April 13-19.
First celebrated in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
‘Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businesses help transform their communities,? said Library Director Linda Sickles. ‘At our library, people of all ages and backgrounds can come together for community meetings, lectures and programs, to do research with the assistance of a trained professional, to get a job, find homework help or borrow a book or movie.?
And the week of April 13-19, they can also come together to have some extra National Library Week fun.
First off, starting now, adults can pick up a list of clues for a community scavenger hunt at the reference desk, and if they finish the hunt and return the items to the library, they can win a prize during the week.
The fun continues on Sunday, April 13, with the showing of ‘The Sound of Music? at 2 p.m.
On Monday, April 14, the library will host Investor Education at 6 p.m.
Up North with Hemingway a Michigan travelogue will take place on Tuesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m., and children can enjoy Craft Day from 10 a.m. to noon and 3-5 p.m.
A good time will be had by all on Wednesday, April 16, as the library hosts the ‘Reading Rocks Comedy Variety Show? at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, April 17, teens can enjoy making their own natural beauty products at 7 p.m., and ‘Outreach Friday? will feature the Lake Orion History Coffee Club at 11 a.m.
