Lake Orion Lions Club kicks off White Cane fundraiser

Starting this Sunday, many local restaurants, bars, and clubs will participate in a competition to raise funds for the Lake Orion Lions Club annual White Cane fundraising project.
The Lions Club will place a collection ‘White Cane? at each establishment and solicit donations from local patrons. Those who donate will be able to write their name on a ‘pledge card? to be posted in the establishment.
The White Cane Program runs through Sunday, May 4.
Proceeds from the White Cane program fund projects like the Bear Lake Camp for blind children in Lapeer (founded by the Lake Orion Lions Club), Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester and other programs aimed at assisting the visually and hearing impaired.
Last year, area restaurants battled it out to raise the most donations. Opa’s Coney Island came out on top, followed closely by Christi’s and Hamlin Pub.
‘The Lake Orion Lions? appreciates the participation of our local bars, restaurants and clubs,? said Lion Dave Tucker. ‘Without the financial support of the local community, the Lions Club could not function. So, if you see your favorite waitress, barmaid, or bartender wearing a White Cane pin, please give them a buck or two to put into the collection device (the White Can) and then post your pledge card where your friends can see it.?
Any questions regarding the White Cane Program or the Lake Orion Lions Club in general can be left on the club’s voicemail at (248)975-6378 or contact Tucker at (248)766-4620.
