Lacrosse uses losses to find their footing

Julian Rob struck first in Clarkston Lacrosse’s game against Notre Dame, but the Wolves couldn’t hold off the Irish.
Clarkston fell in their first two games of the season, to Notre Dame, 8-4, and Seaholm High School, 11-4.
‘We are getting better from our last game and where we started off in the season,? said coach Brian Kaminskas.
‘We’re young and we’re learning. It’s tough to make the adjustments you want to make until all the boys are up to speed and they understand the flow of the game.?
The game against the Notre Dame gave the coaching staff and players a goal of what to work on in practice.
‘We were definitely weak on our execution,? said Kaminskas. ‘We weren’t passing or catching very well.
‘But we worked hard, we got up and down the field. I think our power play team played extremely well. We scored all, but one off of that. We can play off that. Our defense was a little better in the third quarter, so we can build on that as well.?
‘It should be a good week for us,? said Kaminskas looking ahead. ‘We open up at home. Farmington is a pretty skilled team, but we have the guys to get up and down the field. We have a good bunch of athletes. Thursday should be good, too. We always play tough against Royal Oak. The last couple years have been in our favor, and I don’t expect anything different this week.?
In their Saturday game against Notre Dame Prep, Rob scored in the first six minutes of the game, with assist by Adam Zak.
Notre Dame’s Tom Sardelli tied the score with two minutes left in the first quarter.
Notre Dame had a four-point lead at the middle of the third quarter when Jon Avery made Clarkston’s second goal.
Clarkston made two wide shots on the goal. Avery made one more shot putting the ball into the net. Andrew Schram assisted with the goal.
Schram made the third goal for the team with five minutes left in the game. Matthew McEntee assisted on the goal.
The next goal came after McEntee passed the ball to Avery.
With a flick of the wrist Avery sent the ball into the net for the Wolves? fourth goal. Notre Dame tried to put one more shot in the net, but Clarkston’s defense blocked them out.
Goalie Zachary Lewy made eight saves for the game.
JV lost their game against Notre Dame, 3-2 in double overtime.
In their season opener, the boys lost to Seaholm High School, 11-4. The team scored one goal each quarter. Avery scored two goals, and Weston Gleiss and Andrew Schram contributed with one goal each.
Doug Zasacky, McEntee, and Avery assisted with goals.
The Wolves played Farmington United on Tuesday night.
They will play Thursday night at Royal Oak. JV begins at 5 p.m. with varsity following.
