Shults to run for clerk

Penny Shults has announced her candidacy for Orion Township Clerk in the upcoming election. Shults is a longtime township employee and currently holds the Appraiser III position in the Assessing Department.
She began working for the Township in 1989 and said she has truly enjoyed serving the people for the past 20 years.
‘I work closely with members of the community on a daily basis and understand the issues that are important to them,? Shults said. ‘My genuine love for the community, along with the day-to-day experience working with the public, has fostered a lasting commitment to serve the citizens of Orion Township.?
Shults and her husband, Al, moved to Orion Township in 1983 and raised their two children here. She said members of her family have lived in the area for over 50 years, noting the schools, park lands and lakes provide a distinctive environment to raise a family.
Shults has completed numerous courses including planning and administering finances, public speaking and general property tax laws.
She said she has gained a wealth of experience working with various county, state and local agencies, and has developed an overall perspective of the responsibilities of each agency.
‘I will be an excellent choice as your Orion Township Clerk and will continue to serve the residents with the same dedication and commitment I have demonstrated while employed with Orion Township for the past 20 years,? Shults said.
