The Orion Township Board granted a request they rarely approve last week, allowing Grant Fodor to obtain a solicitor’s license to go door-to-door.
Fodor, a 2003 Lake Orion High School graduate, has accepted a position with Edward Jones as a financial advisor and is hoping to open an office in Lake Orion.
Per Edward Jones policy, Fodor said he is required to go door-to-door and introduce himself to the community, prior to actually obtaining his license with the firm.
‘If this doesn’t pass, you’re essentially ending my career,? Fodor explained. ‘This is just how Edward Jones does business.?
The township approved his request, pursuant to their ordinance, with the understanding that he will not be selling services during his door-to-door contacts.
‘I think this one is distinguishable from others in the past, because he’s not selling anything,? Trustee Matt Gibb said. ‘It’s merely an introduction to himself and handing out literature.?
The board approved the request 6-1.
‘There’s a slippery slope,? noted Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk. ‘If we allow you to do it, then the next guy says ‘wait a minute,? and pretty soon we get complaints at the township why there are people knocking on doors.?
Fodor graduated from Wayne State with a degree in business administration.
