Bethany Watterworth’s 13 second half points helped Lake Orion pull away from visiting Stoney Creek Wednesday night in an OAA III match-up between a pair of 6-1 teams.
Stoney Creek’s Brittney Nelson matched Watterworth with 17 points in the game, but didn’t get too much help from her teammates, as Lake Orion prevailed 45-34.
Courtney Zott added 10 points for the Dragons, who improved to 14-2 overall.
The win also ended the Dragons? two-game losing streak.
Watterworth made 10 of 12 free throw attempts in the game, including eight of nine after the break.
Lake Orion’s 16-15 halftime lead was short-lived, as the Cougars took the lead on a couple of occasions early in the third quarter.
The Dragons closed the stanza strong, grabbing an eight point lead. It ballooned to double-digits early in the fourth quarter, and the hosts held off a late Stoney Creek rally to sweep the season series.
